Professional editing for authors, researchers and organisations: clear, thoughtful editing from a published author, educator, and specialist in health communication.
Great writing deserves expert editing. Whether you're preparing a book for publication, polishing professional documents, refining educational resources, or creating clear healthcare and research communications, I offer a range of editorial services to support you at every stage of the writing process.
Combining the eye of an editor with the experience of a published author, educator, and specialist in health communication, I help writers produce work that is accurate, engaging, and fit for its intended audience.
I work with authors, professionals, charities, researchers, educators, and organisations on a wide range of projects, including fiction and non-fiction books, website content, reports, educational materials, patient information leaflets, public engagement resources, lay summaries, and other healthcare and research communications. Every project receives the same careful attention to detail, whether it's a short document or a full-length manuscript.
Every project is unique, and the level of editing required can vary depending on the length, complexity, and stage of development. The prices listed here are typical, but I always provide an individual quote so you know exactly what to expect before we begin. If you'd like to discuss your work and receive a tailored quotation, please get in touch.
Please note: These services are intended for authors, professionals, organisations, and independent publishers. They do not include editing or proofreading of assessed academic work, including assignments for National 5, Higher, college, or university students. My tutoring services for school and university learners remain completely separate.

Writing well is about more than avoiding mistakes. It's about communicating your ideas clearly, engaging your audience, and producing work you're proud to share. As a published author, educator, and professional editor, I've spent years helping people communicate complex ideas with clarity and confidence.
My background spans publishing, education, healthcare, and research communication. Alongside editing books for independent authors, I work with researchers, charities, educators, and organisations to improve reports, educational resources, patient information, public engagement materials, and other professional documents. This breadth of experience means I understand how writing changes depending on its audience and purpose, whether you're telling a compelling story, explaining research to the public, or producing polished professional content.
When I edit your work, my aim isn't to rewrite it in my own style. Instead, I strengthen what is already there by improving clarity, flow, consistency, and readability, while preserving your voice. Every edit is thoughtful, constructive, and tailored to your goals, helping your writing make the strongest possible impression.
I regularly edit:
I focus on the details that make your writing clean and consistent: grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style. I’ll also flag unclear or repetitive sentences and suggest ways to make your writing flow more smoothly, while keeping your voice intact.
Typical rate: £60 per 1,000 words
A final check before publication to catch typos, errors, and formatting slips. Proofreading ensures your work looks polished and professional once it’s out in the world.
Typical rate: £50 per 1,000 words
Developmental editing looks at the 'big picture.' Instead of fixing commas, I reshape your work at the structural level: clarifying your book’s purpose and audience, building a clear framework (e.g. daily prompts, sections, or chapters), cutting repetition, balancing narrative, and making sure every section delivers on the promise of your book.

If you prefer to work gradually, I can step in as you revise - reviewing new drafts, polishing prompts or exercises, checking consistency, or answering specific editorial questions.
By booking editing or proofreading services, you agree to the following terms:
I will never write or rewrite your work for you in a way that compromises originality. My role is to polish and strengthen what you have written, not to create material that could be considered plagiarism. For student assignments in particular, I will not provide editing or proofing services, as these must be the student’s own work.
